Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should be able to use your software (and hardware) with Windows 7 with very little issue. Sometimes you may need a driver update or something, but Windows 7 is compatible with 99.9% of software written for Windows XP. I can help you get your software working, it just may take a little bit of messaging back and forth and some patience :) I'm a network/IT technician and have been studying for my Windows 7 certification, so you have great timing :D
http://www.vsmsoftware.net/faqdataba...aspx?FAQ=SM015 Here is the driver for the 64-bit version of Windows 7 (it says Vista, but they're almost identical) and it explains how to find if you have the 32 or 64-bit. Let me know if the driver update works and if not I have some more ideas for you to try :)
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and whoever told you to use a parallel port is off their rocker. Parallel ports and Windows 7 don't get along any better than cats and dogs, and you'll never find a Windows 7 computer with a parallel port unless it was custom built lol
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I completely agree with Dee. I am also in the IT field and build custom computers and work on computers so I cannot imagine why you were told to use a parallel port. That gave me my giggle for the day :).

Maybe they can mail out a copy of the new drivers on floppy disk! lol
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your best bet is to either listen to IT techs on here or call computer manufacturer. Sewing machine companies actually have no idea how a pc works.
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Husqvarna Viking teck. that I talked to said the Customizing Plus 6.2 version will onlywork on a 32 bit system and I was designed to work on Windows XP. My new system is a 64 bit will not recognize the ReaderWriter devise that plugs into a usb port. with a dongle in another port. He said there was now other way for me to have my system recognize the ReaderWriter. I am able to load in the Customizing and the Stitch editor and move my saved designs into the screens. The only thing I can't to is load to the card that goes into the embroidery machine. Thanks again for letting me vent. Pam
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the spelling errors--chalk it up to frustration!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with the auntiemern as well as the IT guys. Sewing machines and computers are two completely different things. Let one of the IT guys help you. If it can't be fixed at least tried before going out and purchasing a new machine. I have a feeling that the sewing machine people know that the software is compatible but want you to purchase a new machine from them. Good luck dear.
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like a driver issue... Now I know you can actually have programs run in "compatibility mode" so it treats it as if it's Windows XP, but your contact at Husqvarna seems to have mixed up 32 bit and 64 bit. 64 bit programs won't run on a 32 bit machine, but if you have 64 bit then you're good to go. My understanding of 64 vs. 32 (or 86) is that 64 basically runs twice as fast, so you can't use it on a 32-bit machine because it can't go fast enough. Trying not to use computer geek terms lol
It sounds to me like it's just a matter of upgrading your driver. I'll do some searching to see if I can find a driver. The link I posted above is the wrong one :( But I will find one if it exists!!
I don't know much about computerized sewing machines though. I do my sewing on "the beast" that my mother-in-law gave me, an old Brother 651 that she bought when she was in High School lol
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you----Thank you---Thank you-----------------any info or help is apreciated. Pam
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I may have it :) This website: http://www.vsmsoftware.net/Registration/3D/Updates.htm contains all of the updates for your software. If you look at the very bottom you'll see a dongle patch for Vista, I think that may solve your problems :) You can download all of these updates if you need to, but the dongle patch should be the one you're looking for. And I know it's for Vista and not Windows 7, but the actual differences between both operating systems are few. Like I've said since 7 was released, Windows 7 is just Windows Vista with all of the "crap" taken out of it! lol
Let me know if this works, if not I'll look for another solution :) I've read during my searches that people do have this software working on their Windows 7 machines with great success, so it can be done! Good luck!
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just wondering if you've had any success with your card reader Pam :)
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my friends kept her old embroidery machine when she bought a new Viking Designer Diamond. The older one used floppy discs and a parallel port for the reader/writer box. When her computer went belly up, she found a computer repairman who gave her an old computer with a parallel port for use with her reader/writer box. He said he had lots of them that he used for parts, and couldn't sell any of the old computers and was glad she could use one of them.
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pattycake---I"m not sure about the parallel port thing. I still have my old processor with XP on it. Have to check with my "more teckie" son to see if he knows. Thanks for caring. Pam
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I downloaded the patch and I still can't recognize the reader/writer. Thanks for all your help!!!! Pam
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aww, I was hoping that would work. Ask your son if he can set it to run in "compatibility mode", maybe he's used it before and is familiar with it. And he can have a look at the link with all of the updates in it, maybe he can fiddle around and get it to work :) It's a lot easier to fix something when you're sitting in front of it :D
This site has a link to FAQ's for the software, maybe it'll help in some way? http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/8588.htm Fingers crossed that you can find a solution (other than spending oodles of money on a new machine of course!)
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also just noticed that it says the patch only works in conjunction with the first update, so try downloading both and installing the first upgrade first and then re-installing the patch. Maybe that will work :) Keep us posted!
Re: BOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Boo Hoo---SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to buy and install a KVM switch and cable. I have to processors (Windows 7) and (Windows XP) hooked up to the switch through USB cables to a switch. I have one keyboard--1 mouse--and 1 screen. I use computer processor #1 99.9 percent of the time. When I want to load embroidery designs to my reader/writer (Viking Rose machine) I swich to computer #2----do my thing with the designs. Switch back to #1. Take my loaded card down to my embroidery machine and sew away. I'm one happy camper!!!!!!!
There is a web site called KCM switches online where I found this on sale for 33.00. A whole lot better than many thousands for a new embroidery machine. Thanks so much to all who listened to me and offered advise.
